Día de los Muertos...306/365

This was Karin's pick for TRP today. Coincidentally, my daughter has a project for her Spanish class this week where she is supposed to create a make-shift ofrenda for Día de los Muertos. She wanted to honor my dad, her grandfather, with her ofrenda. We've been looking at old pictures and gathering things that he liked or represent him to put in her ofrenda. I went out tonight to try to find a sugar skull, but did not have any luck. I did find a Mexican bakery that had pan de muerto ("bread of the dead"), so I picked up two small loaves. I just couldn't work all those things into a shot tonight, so this will have to do. He's been gone 28 years and I still miss him very much. I wish my children would have been able to know him, and vice versa.

He always liked to try something new. I'm sure that's where I get my "try anything once" attitude from. Where my mom is outwardly supportive of my 365 craziness, I think in her head she's twirling her index finger at her temple, saying, "cuckoo, cuckoo." But my dad would have totally gotten it.

Here's the picture that's in the frame...
