A "Message in a Bottle" of sorts....

...I may have mentioned that I have a long ride to and from work each day. About a 45 minute trip each way. So, I decided to get some books on CD to listen to. I love using my local library to borrow books and I love that they have a network of a gazillion libraries that they do inter-library loans with - so many more books to choose from! Anyway...one of the first books that I put on hold was The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I absolutely loved the book, by the way. I really recommend reading it some time.

Within the past few months, our library has extended their network of libraries that they do the inter-library loan with. The recording of The Secret that I received happened to come all the way from Muscatine, Iowa.

Funny thing is, that I had a friend whom I've lost contact with who lived in Muscatine, Iowa. Now, if you've read The Secret or even know vaguely what it is about, you may understand my thinking that this just might be a gift from the Universe. And that it was this book, out of all the books that I put on hold, that had come from Muscatine made me think even more so that it may be a gift. So, one day the thought occurred to me that perhaps I could put a note in the case when I returned it to the library. And if that note indeed made it all the way back to Iowa, that maybe someone would find it when they checked the CD's in, and maybe someone might know my friend, Sharon, or one of her daughters, and pass along my note containing my email address.

I dropped it off at the library tonight. I stood at the counter while the librarian checked my books in. I think that she thought I was a weirdo that I didn't just leave them on the counter and be on my way. But I wanted to be sure that my note got past this first check-point. And it was a good thing that I did because when she opened up the box, she saw the note and handed it back to me, as if I had forgotten it in there. I told her no, thanks, but I'm hoping that the note makes it all the way back home with the book. I'm sure this confirmed that I indeed was a weirdo. Like I always say....nothing ventured, nothing gained! And I'm usually willing to stick my neck out.

The other two audio books that I've finished are: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Absolutely loved it! I ended up bringing the last CD out of the car so I could finish listening to it one night! And I just finished listening to Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. I enjoyed listening to this as well. You have to keep in mind that I just finished a statistics class and a research methodology class, so I think that made it more interesting for me. The chapter at the end about baby names was quite tedious, though.

Gotta run....the dryer just went off and I'm heading to bed. I'll be sure to keep you posted if I hear anything from Muscatine!

Your "message in a bottle" was such a cool and clever thing to do, Cyn. I hope it brings you back in touch with your friend Sharon.
